Manager
Jan manages the State's Career Center and is the primary consultant for customers desiring to make a career change, plan their next career move or make a life change that will affect their professional life.
Jan managed a career center for Hewlett Packard in Fort Collins, Colorado, prior to joining the State six years ago. Previously, she was an HR Manager for Citigroup and Yavapai College, where she was involved in the selection process for hundreds of candidates.
For 10 years Jan served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Phoenix Urban League, and has been a national workshop presenter on career management topics for Lee Hecht Harrison, an international outplacement consulting firm. She believes that our physical health impacts our personal as well as professional success, and is a guest lecturer around the country for a variety of groups that promote plant-based diets and total wellness.
Jan has traveled around the globe seeking to understand various cultures and belief systems. "My life and work experiences have given me a strong foundation that I use to help our clients and enrich their contact with the Career Center. My goal for each individual who utilizes our services is to instill hope and provide encouragement for the future," says Jan. Her extensive work experience has given her insights into what employers are looking for in a job candidate, which benefits her clients as they competitively present themselves through their transition and advance in their career.

GRISEL SALAS
Administrative Assistant III
Grisel provides a high level of administrative and technical support to Career Center staff and clients. Grisel's passion and expertise lies in assisting our customers with the career development and transition process. She does this through consulting with clients on resume formatting and other search related documents, utilizing her technology skills to present written communications in a succinct and professional manner. Grisel also assists clients with Unemployment Insurance filing, videotaped interview practice sessions, and scheduling for workshops and individual appointments. Behind the scenes, Grisel performs extensive database management and website maintenance functions to ensure our customers have the information and resources they need.
Grisel uses her bi-lingual abilities to translate for our Spanish speaking clients, and is the subject matter expert for all Career Center operations! Grisel has been recognized for her consistent ability to treat each customer as an individual who comes to the Career Center with unique needs and expectations.
Susan assists the Governor’s Office, State Agencies, Boards and Commissions with executive search and recruitment. Susan also created Arizona “Interns-In-Action,” the State’s intern program and serves as an Advisory Board Member for ASU and Carrington College. Susan is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and is the Rewards and Recognition Director for AZSHRM State Council.
Previously, Susan was a Senior Generalist at Discover Financial Services and an HR Manager for The Home Depot.
Susan’s passion is to help students’ gain practical training and hands-on real world experience to satisfy their educational goals. She aspires to assist our interns with professional career preparation while grooming them for a bright future in public service!
Charles works with Career Center clients in videotaped interviewing sessions to prepare them for promotional opportunities. He is also involved in a variety of training programs that the Career Center offers. Charles assists with the Arizona Interns-in-Action program by conducting interviews and making recommendations for potential State Intern placements.
Charles is a Tempe native and has always made it a priority to give back to his community. Charles currently serves on the Constable Ethics, Standards and Training Board, is a Board member for the Longan Education Foundation, and is a youth instructor at the Crossroads Nazarene Church.
Charles received his Masters in Counseling from Northern Arizona University and his Bachelors in Communications/Human Resource Development from Grand Canyon University. Charles brings a wealth of experience from the private sector as a small business owner in Tempe for over 20 years to his work here at the State. In his role as an entrepreneur Charles hired, trained and coached a variety of staff and provided an exceptional level of customer service to the public.
