A Sucessful Transition to a Promotional Opportuntity

My experience with the Career Development Center has been extremely beneficial. The staff was very helpful, and offered many valuable insights and information regarding career planning.

During my first meeting with the career consultant, she took the time to review my current resume and offered some suggestions of how I might highlight my education and experience in a more favorable and more easily readable way.

For anyone who doesn’t know, professional resume evaluation and writing is something that people pay hundreds of dollars for … and the state offers this service at no cost to employees.

After our first meeting, I took an online career assessment (something else that is very costly in the “real” world) which confirmed my career interests and strengths. I was also given some information on interview questions, networking, negotiating and suggested career options conducive to my strengths.

When I met with the career consultant a second time, she reviewed the results of my career assessment, we completed the revisions to my resume, and she made suggestions about areas I might consider where I could use my strengths and add value most effectively.

I applied for, interviewed and was selected for an opportunity that is not only a promotion, but will allow me to use and build on my strengths and add value to the organization and the State of Arizona.

Every employee in the State owes themselves the opportunity to explore career development … and every supervisor/manager should encourage employees to take advantage of this most valuable career evaluation/planning service.

Everyone wins when employees are in the “right” place for them, and feel that they are making a positive difference by doing what they do each day.

The people at the Career Center have a good understanding of each of the State’s Agencies … they can help you identify opportunities.

Don’t just “exist” in the work place … Make it your goal to be fully engaged in your future, and don’t settle for the status quo.

Give your career a jump start! Make an appointment with the Career Development Center as soon as possible.

I did … and the results were amazing!

Preparing for a Change

I first heard about the Career Center from the Department of Administration. They told me about they told me about the newly created Career Center and some of the services they provided.

When I contacted the Career Center, they were so quick to not only help but also listen. I received help recreating my resume with eye catching information, help with interview questions, how to network with others and follow up after interviews.  Because of my limited time, they would work around my schedule so we could meet during lunch time if necessary but it was also convenient to work through Email and follow up and work on my resume.

If you've seen the signs around your agency and wondered how much can they really do for you, don't wonder anymore just call.
